You can do this indefinitely as long as you have a spare colonizable planet. You get 1-2 Robots at the cost of 300 Energy+300 Minerals (or 600 Energy with Private Colony Ships).

Choose their pop for the Colony Ship, send them off to a planet, then resettle them back to one of your old colonies. I made this thread just to point out to any slowpokes like myself out there that there is a way to build them.

So, in theory, you'd be locked into the 3 pops you got from the event (and worse, if you upload them while you only have Robots, they'll be "Forever in Limbo" and never upgrade lmao) the only Empire that can build them is their own, which is only formed by the event by choosing to "part ways", so releasing their planet as a vassal wouldn't even work. This arguably makes them the best research pops in the game in raw production ("arguably" because there's the upkeep and build costs), but they come with the downside of not being buildable by the player.
